Barfi entry in the Oscars

Barfi is India's entry to the Oscars And Nominated for the oscers and that is a great news for Ranbir Kapoor as well as for the whole team

Rani get Dig at Big B and Rekha

Rani Mukerji is in news for all the right and wrong reasons. With a film as quirky and refreshing as Aiyyaa on her platter, she also has been in the news for her character’s uncanny resemblance to Vidya Balan’s ‘Dirty silk’. It was not enough till a video promo of Rani’s Sava Dollar was unveiled recently.

The song sung by the charismatic Sunidhi Chauhan is basically about Rani’s character Meenakshi Deshpande’s innate desire to be an actress and traverses across the big names of the industry, who ruled mainly in the ‘80s and the early ‘90s, a backdrop on which the South meets West love story is thrived on.

In the video promo of her song, Sava Dollar, Rani gyrates to the extensively vivacious and upbeat tunes with her thumkas and the natkhat Lavni steps add to the zing. But then, some of the lines from the song has set the Media ablaze. Lines like ‘pero kea age Bachchan, pero ke niche Rekha’ have been caricatured in the song where Rani tries to imitate both the yesteryear legends’ actions. Though there has been no reaction reported from her Black co-star or from the evergreen diva, Rani’s actions have stormed tabloids and newspapers countrywide. In the video promo that lasts about 2 minutes, Rani lips lines that echo the do-s and don’t-s of being a heroine and she is seen to taking pot shots at the clichés that existed in the tinsel town.

Though Rani, who is extremely happy about her next and is excited to see how the audiences respond to this new wave of Hindi cinema, isn’t going Aiyyaa! about her actions. Not because she is arrogant, because she’s not! The team clarified it to be just a gimmick used in the song and nothing else!

Rani, who ruled our hearts and had been the reigning queen of Bollywood for the last decade suddenly took a sabbatical only to return back with a powerful ‘Meera Gaiti’ in Raj Kumar Gupta’s No One Killed Jessica. The power house actress is usually a very fun loving adorable star, not the usual snob that she’s made out to be and is clearly awaiting the release of Aiyyaa on the 12th of October!

Jab Tak Hai Jaan Is last movie of Yash Chopra's

While on one hand, Karan Johar is happy about Barfi!'s journey to the Oscars, on the other, he has reportedly stated that Jab Tak Hai Jaan is going to be the most special film of the year as it might be Yash Chopra's last film.

He mentioned that while his own film Student Of The Year is releasing this year, Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be the most special experience of 2012 for him, as the legend may not direct films after this.

Bachchans in the Chittagong

Much bad blood had flown between the Bachchans and the makers of Chittagong when it was alleged that Abhishek Bachchan had ended up doing a film, Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se, based on the same historical figure Surya Sen on which Chittagong is based. But now all of the bitterness has been washed away.

And now the Bachchans, Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan, will attend a special screening of Chittagong in memory of the director Bedabrata Pain's deceased son, on 5th October which would also see a rare showbiz attendance by the eminent television journalist Dr. Pranoy Roy.

Sources say it was Dr. Roy who brought about the rapprochement between the Bachchans and the Chittagong team.

Says our source, "First it was Bedo (Bedabrata Pain) who approached Jayaji. Though she is neck-deep in preparations for the Big B's birthday bash, she agreed to come for the show. But when Bedo tried to invite Mr. Bachchan through Jaya, she advised him to do the needful on his own. Bedo asked Mr. Bachchan and also asked Dr. Roy to put in a word. Not one to hold grudges, Big B immediately agreed to be there for the screening. Shah Rukh Khan who is very close to Dr. Roy has also agreed come for the memorial screening."

Confirming these august presence at his screening, director Bedabrata Pain says, "Yes Amitji and Jayaji have kindly agreed to be there on this very special day in my life. I was very keen that they be there. I had my apprehensions due to what had happened. But not for a minute did they allow any awkwardness to come in the way of their intrinsically generous nature."

English Vinglish Movie Review

Sridevi’s English Vinglish will not be remembered for its box office collections, neither will they talk about it for its extravagant settings and item numbers, instead, this movie will be remembered for the statement it makes. Very clear, very loud, and very obvious. Yet, so often overlooked.
This movie is dedicated to the “aurat” in every woman out there. Its as much about taking control over your life, as it is about loving and respecting those around you.
There are very few times when one can leave the theater not knowing when they crossed the line between reality and fiction, and the good movies very often blend these both. English Vinglish connects you to the fundamental issues that govern relationships, respect, love and life itself. But more importantly, it is a celebration of that inner desire and drive every person innately possesses to learn something new and adapt into something that’s better than who you are.
She returnsEnglish Vinglish was always destined to have a good opening, especially amongst the city-folk. The much awaited return of Sridevi to the industry that made her who she is, and she did not dissapoint.
There used to be a time when heorines weren’t made because daddy was from a movie industry, or because you had it in you to walk the ramp. There was a time when heroines used to play the leading protagonist in a movie, around whom the movie revolved instead of being subjected to doing obscene dance steps and crying at the drop of a hat. English Vinglish is a throwback to those days. Days when a movie was driven by the story, screenplay and the acting… not by outlandish depictions of pretentious lives.
Sridevi looked natural, beautiful as ever, and gracious with age. Its almost as though she did not try to act, it was all right there. Shashi (sridevi’s character) and Sridevi were one and the same. Whatever the situation demanded… jubiliation, excitement, dissapointment, sadness, anxiousness… its almost like the present crop of heroines forgot how to act, and when you finally saw someone go through these so naturally, you’re left wondering how was it that you survived watching movies for so many years without a heroine who stood up to be counted.
The teaserAs the name, and the promos rightly suggest, English Vinglish is the story of how a typical saari-clad Indian woman, starts believing in herself. The way the director has shown the situations that lead up to the big transformation, the relationships between husband, wife and children, and society in general has been shown very realistically and touch a sentimental chord to everyone who will watch it.
At the core of this movie stands the need for recognition, and appreciation, and the English class that our leading lady joins and the friendships she makes along the way help her re-shape her life and regain her confidence. One dialogue that Shasi says at the end… “thanks for helping me love myself again”, sums up the movie beautifully.
The final wordThis review is not about giving a score, or a thumbs up or thumbs down for a movie, not this movie atleast. Don’t miss English Vinglish if you want to watch a good movie. But don’t expect it to be like the rest of the stuff out there!
